A WORD FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Hi ladies. October is wrapping up and we will soon be starting a new year. I think this club is going to have some exciting things happening in 2015! Get to know your fellow club members. Go have lunch, dinner or meet for coffee. Get to know each other. I have to admit when I first joined the club, I really wish my best friend from Texas was here with me. It's always more fun when you are doing things with your closest friend! And although I still wish my best friend was up here, I now have fun with new friends in the club. That makes it so much more fun.

I heard a story recently from one of the owners of  Two Guys Printing. She told me about how she use to be a part of the Bardstown Woman's Club, and that her mom was a State President one year. She went to her first State Convention as the newest member and the member who had been part of the Federation the longest were being honored it turned out to be her and her mom, as she was a brand new member. I loved hearing that story... the history. Even though it was about another club in Federation, it was wonderful to hear about. Of course, I've asked her to come and check out the Bullitt County Woman's Club. If you are in Two Guys Printing invite the ladies in there to come and join us.

All new members are exciting, but it was cool that Jacque Prewitt's daughter-in-law joined recently. I love seeing women in the same family being a part of this club...like Betty Porter and Jennifer, or Carol McLaughlin and her mom Kathrynn and of course Lou Ann Moore and her mom Barbara Crume. If I had a daughter, I'd have her right along with me in BCWC.

We will be having Chairman's Training on Saturday at my home. This is to help all officers and chairs be prepared to do the best job possible for each of you!

Now go invite someone to be your new club partner!

TALENT AUCTION NEWS....

What a wonderful turnout for our Talent Auction this year!

I chose to prepare some special auction cards in the shape of a key for this year's Talent Auction, in honor of the theme symbol chosen by GFWC/ Kentucky Federation President, Susan Alexander.

Those keys floated up and down all evening and I had to smile as some were turned in early to avoid the temptation of raising them again after some pretty exuberant bidding.

We had such an awesome display of talent up for auction that it even impressed our Auctioneer, Bryan Gifford, who kindly stepped in at the last minute to provide his services, free of charge.

Speaking of Bryan, he did an absolutely amazing job of drawing each of us in to bid top dollar.  His efforts and the fruits of our labor brought in a whopping $1522, over double what has been raised for several years past.

The proceeds of this fundraiser contributed to our general fund in order to provide monies needed for various Bullitt County Woman's Club events throughout the year.

A big thanks to Pat Kelly and new member Icy Parker, for playing our Vannas at this year's event and thanks also to Barbara Crume who organized getting the auction items beautifully displayed as they arrived, while I was tied up in the Executive Committee Meeting. One last huge thank you to Denise Lafferty, our event hostess, and her crew, who served up some good eats for everyone to enjoy throughout the evening.

To everyone who participated in this year's event should collectively pat ourselves on the back for making this year's Talent Auction a fantastically successful event.

Think Pink Event 2014

Last night was the 3rd Annual Think Pink  an Evening to Education & Celebrate.  What a wonderful view of all the ladies and men in pink.    This was sponsored by Bullitt County Health Department, Kentucky Cancer Program, Bullitt County  Breast Cancer Support Group and Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Service .
We had the honor of hearing from each of them what services they provide for Bullitt County.  Kelsey Stark with WHAS 11 was our MC.
I was asked to share my journey with Breast Cancer.I was diagnosed in April 2000.    So went through my journey with the people which was emotional for me while I was preparing to speak.    I am a 14 year survivor and so glad to be alive and well.I know through the work of my doctors, family , friends, and of course my faith I made it through.
Since there was no support group in Bullitt County I talked with American Cancer Society how to go about starting one in the County.   The First Baptist Church of Mt. Washington was a support by giving us a room to meet in monthly.   I had help also from Ruth Chowning  Extension Service (club member) and Cynthia Brown with the Health Dept. by giving me guidance in how to form a group and to help with speakers etc.  I am very thankful for these who helped us get started.
Our Breast Cancer Support Group meets each month on the 4th Tuesday at 7pm-8:30pm.   We meet in the CLC building in the Craft room.   We do not meet in November or December due to Holidays being in the same week we meet.   So if you know of anyone that needs or wants to come to our group please be sure to tell them about us.
I did not know  until last night that one our own Barbara Crume is a 40+ year survivor.  What a great example for all of us to know someone that has been a survivor that long.   Gives us all HOPE.

DARE CHILI SUPPER....

Good morning to all. I know it has been a few days since our last blog post, but we are getting back on track, just lots of great things happening in the Woman's Club right now.

I want to take a few minutes and share with you a few photos from the DARE Chili Supper we had a wonderful time helping the Sheriff's office raise money to help fund  the DARE  program.  We bring cakes to the DARE fundraiser and help serve the chili and desserts. We also bring items for door prizes that the audience can purchase tickets to try and win. It was a fun night and a great fundraiser we helped in  raising  $898.50 for the DARE Program.
I would like to thank Lori Puchino for taking the pictures for us, all of us forgot our cameras.

TALENT AUCTION...

Today I would like to share with you a little information  about one of our Special Committee's our Annual Talent Auction. This is a auction we hold every year to help with our fundraising needs for our club and to also help with several community programs.

Each year our club holds a Talent Auction that is open to the public. All the items are made by the women in our club or by someone they know. There will be needlework items, wood work items, ceramics, and sometimes quilts. Many of the women are wonderful cooks and will make special baked items for the auction.

We have a auctioneer that donates his or her time to auction off the items. The bidding sometimes gets lively when an item is sought after my many people, adding to the fun of the event.

This is just a short little piece of information about our auction. Over the month of October I will share a little history from our past auctions and a little bit about how it all began. Be sure to check back often to find out a little more about the history of our talent auction.

Remember to share with your friends and invite them to come to our Talent Auction  The auction is on Monday October 13 and it starts at 7 pm. Be sure to check our Facebook page for more details on where the auction is being held this year.
